Welcome to the Yard Sale Machine

18 10 2010

The weekend’s here and time for a drive
To check out all the malls on the lawn roadsides
A bargain and find round every bend
What’s one man’s junk is your piece de resistance

In boxes, tables and sheets on the ground
A home-made Wal-Mart, that would make Sam Walton proud
Everything you don’t need and so much more
Their asking for $10, but you can haggle to $4

Welcome to the yard sale machine
All lined up and questionably clean
From kiddie clothes to worn out canoes
Priced just right and waiting for you
Advertised from 8 to 1
But get there early so you can beat everyone
A one of a kind retail scene
Welcome to the yard sale machine

All your neighbors up and down the street
Are making deals with prices that can’t be beat
A one-legged ironing board, a non reversible drill
A bottomless bucket that can never get filled

An 8 track player that plays only two tracks
A velvet recliner that is missing it’s back
Things that they once couldn’t bear to give away
Are the same things the trash men won’t take the next day

Welcome to the yard sale machine
All lined up and questionably clean
From kiddie clothes to worn out canoes
Priced just right and waiting for you
Advertised from 8 to 1
But get there early so you can beat everyone
A one of a kind retail scene
Welcome to the yard sale machine

So go to the bank and get your wad full of bills
Before you cruise along the highway of junk thrills
Look for the signs stapled to the telephone poles
Made out of cardboard and paper plates and bowls

One of a kinds and antiques await
The written sticker price is always up for debate
There’s no better way to spend a brisk weekend autumn day
Than to buy back all the stuff you once threw away

Welcome to the yard sale machine
All lined up and questionably clean
From kiddie clothes to worn out canoes
Priced just right and waiting for you
Advertised from 8 to 1
But get there early so you can beat everyone
A one of a kind retail scene
Welcome to the yard sale machine
