Everybody Gets Stuck in the Mud

9 07 2011

It seems the cards are stacked against us some days
Whatever we do it always comes our way
We try our best, but you know it’s in town
Whatever goes up, is bound to come down
This uncharacteristic act I speak of
Everybody gets stuck in the mud

Monkey on the corner can’t get no change
His cup is empty in front of the Stock Exchange
No matter how loud the organ music is played
Not enough spare coins will sound the cup today
Times are tough and this is indicative of
Everybody gets stuck in the mud

Everybody gets stuck in the mud
Everybody gets stuck in the mud
No matter how you try you always fall short of
Living through this life that draws blood
There’s only one thing that I’m sure of
Everybody gets stuck in the mud

Johnny Simmons in front of his lemonade stand
Trying to squeeze out a business the best he can
With a white picket fence showing faded paint lines
That sadly displays, his Dad’s “House for Sale” sign
Good times, once smooth, now getting rough
Everybody gets stuck in the mud

World deflation across this old Middle Earth
Caught between the life, we were promised at birth
Taking what comes with a bitter grain of salt
Hoping that it hasn’t been all for naught
Waiting for times to turn around or I wanna get off
Everybody gets stuck in the mud

Everybody gets stuck in the mud
Everybody gets stuck in the mud
No matter how you try you always fall short of
Living through this life that draws blood
There’s only one thing that I’m sure of
Everybody gets stuck in the mud

Everybody gets stuck in the mud
Sometimes your life feels just like crud
No matter what you do and thinking of
You can’t escape this world with kit gloves
So take it from me and give your shoulders a shrug
Everybody gets stuck in the mud

Everybody gets stuck in the mud
Everybody gets stuck in the mud
Everybody gets stuck in the mud
