Unwritten Dakota Song

9 10 2010

You know I never meant to hurt you
Cause I was busy hurting myself
We were a pair of lost boys in a new World
Looking for a figure that could give us help

There’s no excuse for what you went through
Abandoned for no reason and left all alone
I know that pain that you must have seen
Turning both our hearts and minds to stone

I wish I could turn back the clock
And find all the moments we both had lost
We’d go sit by the waters near the docks
And find the time no matter the cost
Undo all the damage and try to right the wrongs
But I’m afraid now that all remains
Is this Unwritten Dakota Song

It must be hard for you to fathom
While I was seen, but never there
Taking time to love the whole world
But taking no time to show you I cared

If I could rewrite my own history
And take a look at those around
I’d fill your memories with the moments
Instead of the ones you never found

I wish I could turn back the clock
And find all the moments we both had lost
We’d go sit by the waters near the docks
And find the time no matter the cost
Undo all the damage and try to right the wrongs
But I’m afraid now that all remains
Is this Unwritten Dakota Song

Instrumental

I love you every day I see you
I see the love in you each day
You fill the world with love around you
I’m proud of everything you do and say

You know I never meant to hurt you
You know I never meant to let you go
Losing someone twice in one life
Is the hardest thing, we both know

I wish I could turn back the clock
And find all the moments we both had lost
We’d go sit by the waters near the docks
And find the time no matter the cost
Undo all the damage and try to right the wrongs
But I’m afraid now that all remains
Is this Unwritten Dakota Song

Fade Out

11:58

18 01 2010

It’s 11:58, I should be asleep
Instead I’m typing something that I want to complete
It made turn out special or could be mundane
Whatever it is, it keeps me sane

A line or two here and a word that rhymes
If I’m lucky it won’t take any time
It can be funny or may turn out sad
As long as it’s good and not half bad

Where it comes from I will never know
It just pops in my head and away I go
If I don’t write it down and commit it to paper
Chances are I’ll have no recollection later

So pardon my prose if it doesn’t make much sense
Yet at this late hour, my fatigue is an expense
So I bid you Good Night and I’m off for some ZZZZZ’s
Because the clock on the wall is reading 12:15

A Flock of Carolina Geese

17 12 2009

By chance if you care to walk,
Along the path so green
There is one simple rule,
That you must follow, I have seen

Tend to the beauty of the meadow,
And what lies within there beyond
As you gaze toward the sky so blue,
Beware the wrath near the glistening pond

For one day I stood there, I know not how long
When the days became short and quite colder,
A flock of Carolina geese flew overhead
And got me right square on the shoulder

So if by chance you care to walk
And stroll the path of the poet’s walk loop
Look to the skies and be prepared
There’s a flock of Carolina geese that poop

Home Grown Days

9 12 2009

I was searching for a station going up and down the dial
But I couldn’t find any music that left me with a smile
So much noise without substance I can tell
How I long for the days of the music from Cordell

There was a time you wanted to hear the radio
The music set the stage and the words you loved to know
Playing every genre and style to expand your mind
Oh how I could listen to it and them one more time

Where has all the great music gone, they played on 102.3
It brought us into a better place to deal with life’s reality
Damian, Cerphe, Weasel and Bob
They always gave their all and no less
How I miss the Home Grown Days listening to WHFS

From ABBA to Zappa and everything in between
They exposed you to sounds and made you hear things you never seen
Country Folk to Progressive London Wave
If you wanted the next new sound, they had it yesterday

The Triangle Towers showcased music that wasn’t easily found
With clipboard linear notes in glorious Washington High Fidelity Sound
Thank you for the music and thanks for all the rest
It’s the station we like the best, we’ll be rockin’, we’ll be rollin’, on WHFS

Where has all the great music gone
They played on 102.3
It brought us into a better place to deal with life’s reality
Damian, Cerphe, Weasel and Bob
They always gave their all and no less
How I miss the Home Grown Days listening to WHFS

Ode to a Mugglecast

8 12 2009

I’m weaving into another great Mugglecast
Oh how I wish the discussion would always last
As I listen to them talk from new Dell laptop
Please J.K.Rowling, don’t make them stop

The podcasts I listen to each and every day
And I wouldn’t have it any other way
When a new one appears, I have to listen to it real soon
It’s my own Mugglecast Situation Room

They discuss the books, films and actors and everything in between
From a small subplot to what happens behind the scenes
The podcasts are my potions, an internet source of magical waters
That make me countdown to the opening of
The Wizardly World of Harry Potter

So join me now where the parents dare not to go
Inside a time and place, a world that can’t control
Escape with my friends and I, where the discussions would always last
As we weave into another great Mugglecast

A Goodbye Sy

27 11 2009

I just saw the news today
Tucked away in the corner of B5
Someone that I know but never quite knew
Is now off to the off-price blue skies

I only saw him on the television screen
A superstar retail clothing wonder
For he came up with ” An Educated Consumer,
Is Our Best Customer.”

A Goodbye Sy
One last goodbye
Your legacy was no frills stores and unadorned racks
Kept us all shopping and forever coming back
A Goodbye Sy
One last goodbye

Syms bought in bulk, in cash and agreed
Not to advertise the name brands to you and me
Store by store, Sy built his empire of clothes
He was sensitive to the needs of the customer he knows
He donated millions for causes that were in need
Like buying the New York Yankees to keep them from moving to New Jersey

A Goodbye Sy
One last goodbye
Your legacy was no frills stores and unadorned racks
Kept us all shopping and forever coming back
A Goodbye Sy
One last goodbye

Holiday Week

26 11 2009

Thanksgiving week is a series of little white lies
With a buffet table of food and people wearing last year’s Christmas ties
Mark the calendar, set your watch and remember the date
The holiday approaches and for no one it waits

Turkey with stuffing and fresh-baked pumpkin pie
Cranberries, potatoes and veggies will expand our stomachs so wide
Toss in a football game to make the holiday complete
There’s no time to talk, but plenty of time to eat

After dinner, Grandpa takes to the sofa for some snoozing quiet time
I guess all that turkey did him in, not to mention the two bottles of wine
Grandma is just the talk of the evening as she remembers family lore
As the night goes on she talks longer and louder, mostly due to Grandpa’s snores

And so a festive occasion winds down, but a new one has already begun
I swear the mall’s Christmas decorations were put up on July 1
Yet the real meaning of Thanksgiving is so simple and so real
It’s not only celebrating with loved ones,
but getting a good night sleep before Black Friday Deals
